Purpose

Hi all.

I bet you've been wondering something for awhile. I'll say it out loud for you: "What exactly is the purpose of this blog? Sometimes she posts about books, sometimes about shopping, most of the time about nothing. All with really blurry pictures."

I've been wondering the same thing. I have to be honest, if I don't come up with a good answer, this blog may be going the way of the earth.

It may be helpful if you want to leave a comment on why you like to read my blog, if you do. Shameless pandering for comments, you say? Sort of. Shameless pandering or not, I want to know if this is really a purposeful use of my time. Because the way I see it is this: either this thing has got to get a whole lot better or it's probably time to shut it shut down. If you are shy, you can always email me. carie skinner at yahoo dot com. I think I'll open it up for anonymous comments as well. Cause you know, if your going to do it, it might as well be all the way.

Best, C

I used to like to read your blog for all of the creative ideas you had/have.

Lately it just seems like a whole lot of book reviews and clothing options, which I don't really care about sometimes. So I haven't been reading it all that much lately.

I like to read your blog because I like YOU :) I've read a couple of books you reviewed, and I like to see your house decor when you post about that bc I think your house is beautiful and I like your style.

here's your purpose: it's for me. i miss you greatly dear friend. GREATLY. and i'm not much of a phone talker so this lets me know what is going on. not the important email-worthy stuff, but the fun, silly stuff that i would think, "i can't wait to see carie in primary on sunday and tell her about this!" kind of stuff.
the end. but maybe an email once in a while with all the non-gossip would be good too. i'll get on that.

I second Laura! I read it because I like you and your taste. Also, it's a way to keep up with people in everyone's busy, busy lives! I enjoy knowing that my friends who I may not keep in touch with the best, or see on a regular basis, can still keep up with me by visiting my blog. I only wish that more of my friends blogged so I could keep up with them! I'm just not a phone talker and it's so hard to schedule get-togethers. So blogs are where it's at.

Also, and this is just a thought...I've noticed a decline in commenting on my blog. I don't know why. Maybe because of Facebook or lack of time. But comments are so much more affirming, and encouraging to keep going. And so maybe if you've had a decline in comments, you might be feeling this way? I don't know, it's just something I've thought of, too, before. Like, if no one is reading this, why should I keep doing it? Just know that there are lurkers out there who do enjoy it, whether they comment or not! :) And if anything, if you like to blog because you LIKE doing it, then just do it for yourself and who cares if anyone reads or not! That's my attitude! (Took me a long time to finally get to that point, but it's how I feel!)

Dear anonymous,

That is EXACTLY the kind of comment I am looking for, thanks for sharing.

I haven't done as many projects lately. I do however have great recommendation for you, check out my friend's youtube videos: ShowMeCute. She is a true genius with more talent in her little finger than I have in my entire body. She will have a blog up shortly.

Best, Carie

P.S. Laura and Heidi. You're the best.

And you're great too Mer. Your comment about blogging for yourself, is right on. I feel the same way.

I may be the only male that reads your blog. I enjoy your book reviews of course but I like the way you write about them more than actually reading the book I couldn't care less about shoes or clothes, but I enjoy reading about your search for a particular belt. It is the style more than the content. You also have such a Cleaver type family that it always makes me smileAnd really seems inspirational. My favorite thing you posted was when you had the series of misfires when trying to take a family picture for your Christmas cards. I thought that was hilarious. Bottom line is that I really enjoy reading your blog.

I love your blog(and so do my sisters and sister-in-law. As a matter of fact, you were a whole topic of discussion at a recent reunion). I love everything about you... You enlighten me on fashion(which I don't have the time/desire to do myself). I find it adorable that you see a belt and fall madly in love with it! A belt?! Who knew I should be on the lookout for great belts! I love that you run, and that you read, and that you love your family, and that you decorate, and that you do the occasional craft and that you live in a place so foreign to me.
Keep up the good work!

Oh, I forgot to mention how much I love your passion for modest and appropriate clothes/books/music/movies for you and your daughter. This is a great guide for mothers of daughters coming of age.

I love your blog. I think you have a great sense of style and classy taste. My favorite parts are your fashion and beauty recommendations, but I also enjoy reading about your random new interests, like certain brands of hot chocolate, etc. I would be sad if you stopped blogging.

Sorry. One more thing. I've been meaning to write and tell you that you MUST read Unbroken. It is the best book I have read in years. Very real. True story. Very intense. But an incredible journey of survival that I think every adult American should read.

I'm honestly a blog stalker. My little shameless addiction:) I love to peek in here once in a while and see what cute decorating ideas you have, or fashion finds, or ideas for cute modest teen clothing. I've enjoyed the book reviews also, though I have had zero time to read them in the past year or so. I love to peek into the lives of REAL LDS women who may or may not be as perfect as everyone thinks they are. Being a working mom of 2 (almost 3) munchkins it's nice to see that "real life" happens to other LDS families and they continue to carry on in their stalwart convictions.

I love your blog and read it regularly. I like that it doesn't have to follow a certain structure, but rather can be about whatever you want. I would definitely say it's a keeper!

I am not a loyal blog fan but, I do come back to it now and then. When I first saw the blog world I thought, wow, I had no idea how narcissistic women are! After a while, I thought, there are so many women who are looking for a connection, women who are looking to be fulfilled in the quiet, secret places in their souls. Women are more than just wives and mothers and blogging allows them a way to express and explore their inner core of selfhood while fulfilling the demands of wife and mother.

While your blog is at times random and whimsical, I follow it because I have met you and I know their is genuine substance to you. I like the projects and life stories you share and skim through the book reviews and fashion shows. I really liked the post you had about the wall that was difficult to decorate. It is always refreshing to watch someone else work through a similar problem.

Why did you start the blog in the first place? was it something you did for yourself and now that part of you has been fulfilled or did you write it to connect with others? If this is the reason, you can't abandon us now, right?

I read your blog as a way to keep up on what is going on in your corner of the world. And while I am guilty of not leaving comments just know that I check in on your blog 2 or 3 times a week to see if you have posted anything new AND to read any new comments left by others.

I really enjoy your blog. I love the fashion ideas, book reviews, projects, and the great family things you do together. I have Austenland waiting for me at the library, and I can't wait to start reading it. Thank you!!

Please don't stop blogging. I know that we talk once a week, but this seems more like what you are feeling. I probably should write a comment so you know that I do read it.

Carrie! I read because I adore you. And your book reviews are especially helpful. (however, not quite there with all of the youth fiction {yet} ) I love seeing anything that involves your house and its decor because it is fabulous. More so in person (sheesh! love it!) :) And of course your style is right up my alley so it is fun when you post about your mothers day wish list etc. I especially love your disclaimer post you wrote a while back. That is the stuff I really connect with. Anyways, hope you keep blogging:)

P.S. Thanks for letting us barge in the other night. It was nice to chat with you. :)

I have made (and adopted as my own) 2 of your cookie recipes, purchased 3 shirts, read at least 5 books... all because of your blog. PLEASE do not stop posting!

I always check back to read your blog because I love following your projects and interesting ideas. I would say that my favorite posts of yours are the ones like 'You look just like..' - funny and involving. It would make me sad if you stopped blogging!

I check in periodically because I like your fashion and decorating posts. I'm low on fashion and decorating sense so I think it is fun when you work through new outfits and fashions. I like the book reviews too, but I'm in a little bit of a reading lull. I like that it is a little bit of everything, especially since I don't know you!

Jessica said...

(Kimberly came from me! Yay!)

I mostly just want to live by you because you're my favorite. This is my only option for experiencing you. I'm in it for every post --the family, the fashion, the decor, the books, the whimsy. You are a GOOD writer and that's why random people visit you.

Don't change anything about your blog.

(just got back from girls camp...that's why this is tardy)

Carie, please don't pack up and move on. Since being banished to 1st Ward (well, not really banished, but you know what I mean), it keeps me up to date on whats going on in the Skinner world! :)

Thought I'd leave an official comment. One of the things I've always admired about you is that when you find a great deal, idea, book, craft etc you are willing to share it with others. You are generous like that. I like reading your blog for those reasons and the fact that I am lucky enough to have you as my dear friend. Whatever you choose to do is up to you though. :) Love ya!
p.s. my word verification is "noontino" is that like a little nooner? ha I crack myself up.

I read your blog because I love the outfits that you come up with. I wish that my local bargains stores had the cute clothes that you manage to find.
